Thai Basil Beef

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 red bell peppers, sliced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp fish sauce
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup fresh Thai basil leaves
  • 1 tsp chili flakes (optional)
  • Cooked jasmine rice

Instructions:

  1. Cook the Beef: Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef, breaking it up with a spoon, and cook until browned. Remove excess fat if necessary.

  2. Sauté the Aromatics: Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook until the onion is translucent and the garlic is fragrant, about 2-3 minutes.

  3. Add the Peppers: Stir in the sliced red bell peppers and cook until they are tender-crisp, about 5 minutes.

  4. Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, mix together the soy sauce, fish sauce, oyster sauce, and brown sugar. Pour this mixture into the skillet and stir well to combine all ingredients.

  5. Finish with Basil: Add the fresh Thai basil leaves to the skillet, stirring until they are wilted and well incorporated. If you like a bit of heat, add the chili flakes at this stage.

  6. Serve: Serve the Thai Basil Beef over cooked jasmine rice. Garnish with additional basil leaves if desired. This dish pairs wonderfully with steamed vegetables or a light cucumber salad.

  7. Enjoy: Enjoy this fragrant and flavorful Thai Basil Beef, perfect for a quick weeknight dinner that doesn't compromise on taste.
